All Alternatives For Home Facial Hair Removal
Having unwanted hair on the face is a real problem for many women and men, all looking for ways to remove these unwanted hair. Since all body parts with unwanted hairs can be covered or ‘hidden’, the only real part that is always left to be seen is the face.
Here you can learn on all the known options for facial hair removal, all the benefits, the side effects and dangers, the cost and downsides.
Laser Facial hair removal
There are many ways to remove unwanted hair at home, the best solution for getting rid of hair all over the body will be purchasing a home laser system. It might cost a large sum of money which many might not be able to afford, but at the long run its the best value for money and most efficient way to remover hair from major body areas like the legs, arms, back and stomach. The main down side of home laser systems is that they are not all designed for facial hair removal.
Here are two home lasers that are approved for facial use:
DM6000 Permanent Laser Hair Removal System – Possibly the only home use laser system that can do facial hair removal. With a pinpoint beam the operator can move from follicle to follicle very quickly. This system scans rapidly from hair to hair, unlike other brands which require an elaborate sequence of steps to treat a ‘single hair’ at a time. It’s not a ‘sexy’ looking device but the accuracy of the beam is crucial for facial hair removal.
Silk’n SensEpil Hair Removal Device – “Silk’n SensEpil can be used for the treatment of facial hair from the cheek line downwards. Extra caution should be used when treating areas on the face to avoid the eyes and avoid pulsing on red/pink lip line.” This system uses Home Pulsed Light (HPL), which has some benefits over the Laser. If you wish to remove hair from sideburns, chin or upper lip – This is the best option as it will remove hair also from the rest of the body faster than the DM6000.

Me my ELOS Pro Ultra + Facial Kit
Currently (updated at 2013) the BEST hair removal system for body and for face. The advanced ELOS system has special “facial kit” accessory which makes the facial hair removal much safer than any other device. The ELOS kit has protective goggles and a white pencil and exact information on how to remove facial hair safely and effectively. Me my ELOS is approved by the FDA for all skin tones and hair colors.
Electrolysis For Facial Hair
This is a different type of hair removal process, in the electrolysis process an electric current is applied with a very fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe. This needle probe is inserted into each hair follicle to destroy the root. It’s then the electric current that kills the root permanently.
Skin and hair – Unlike the laser that can not be used on dark skin types or on light blond hair, electrolysis can be used on anyone despite their skin or hair color tone because it attacks the hair follicle itself, and not the pigment in the hair.
Facial use – It can be done on facial hair since there is no laser light or eye/skin dangers caused by it. the probe is inserted to each follicle at a time, and no accidental rays can harm the eyes.
Time & Money– Electrolysis for the whole body at the Med Spa is a very long and time consuming (and expensive!). An average 30-minute session is about $45. Take in mind that more than one session will be needed for facial hair removal. Electrolysis of facial hair at home is the best to option since most areas are fairly small to treat (eyebrows, the glabella “uni-brow”, sideburns, upper lip, chin).
Waxing Hair From Face
Waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. In this process warm wax is placed on the desired areas and cloth strips are adjusted upon it. When the wax cools down it hardens and the unwanted hair is gripped hard on the cloth. Then the cloth is pulled hopefully with the hairs plunked from the roots.
Not Permanent – New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for two to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet…
Waxing Downside– It hurts ! The second thing is that hairs tend to break inside the follicle and in-growinto the skin, causing redness and infections. Make sure you do not over heat the wax, and that you place the wax exactly on the unwanted hair with the spatula. It is recommended to use any kind of anesthetics and soothing lotions to calm the skin.
Facial Hair Removal Depilatory Creams
The hair removal creams started as products for legs hair removal creams, but as the demand grew so did the companies developed creams for facial hair removal. Depilatories, more commonly known as hair removal creams, work by breaking down the hair’s protein structure so that the hair comes out of the skin easily when you rub off the cream. These creams use chemicals that break down the hair, causing it to drop of after a while. Unlike waxing, this easy method is also pain-free if you follow the directions and avoid sensitive facial areas.
Depilatory Creams not Permanent – This process is not permanent and needed to be done every few weeks to maintain a hairless skin. Though in some cases returning use of these creams can reduce the hair growth for a while.
Facial Hair Removal Creams Side effects– Depilatory users have reported suffering from burns, blisters, rashes, stinging sensations and skin peeling. Use only creams made for the face (!) the leg creams have a severe chemical substance inside them not suitable for the face. The Calcium thioglycolate and sodium hydroxide in most hair removal creams is the main chemical that usually causes such a strong and often unpleasant odor.
Good Old Tweezing Hairs off
The facial hair is usually a small area (upper lip, eyebrow, sideburns) where the hair grows too much, too long or too dark compared to the skin. Actually if the number of hairs that you wish to be eliminating is small, plucking them one by one can solve the problem altogether. In cases where the problem is more than a few hairs popping from the nose or ear, the eclectic tweezers come to be very handy. The electric tweezers can pull off bits of unwanted facial hair fast and comfortable.
The discomfort can be dramatically reduced when using a Pre Tweezing Gel. Make sure the face is clean, and a soothing lotion is layered right after.
Facial Hair Epilators
Regular epilators are fast moving springs that rotate and pluck hairs quickly and efficiently. Those epilators are not as good when when it comes to facial hair removal, they are too wide and too harsh to be used to trim the eyebrows or close to the sideburns. Today there are some electric devices built especially for removing facial hair, those grooming machines will usually have a very small edge with a fine tip, that can be used on all facial hair.
The soft tip of the trimmer can gently and painlessly trims unwanted delicate facial hair quickly and effectively. This is good for completing a makeup look, giving a touch to the eyebrows or the upper lip without messing up the makeup or lipstick. Most personal facial groomers are small, discrete and can be used anywhere. Some have a pivoting head follows the contours of the skin for close trimming.

Spring Facial Hair Remover
These are simple spring units that when held and flexed around the skin snatch the hair and pull them off. The main advantage is that they fix all skin tones and all hair colors, no batteries, no maintenance, no chemicals and unwanted odors. These springs are small so they fit into any ladies bag and can be used anyplace.
These spings are not accurate, they might be good enough for upper lip or chin, but not to delicate to fix eyebrows.
