Silk’n SensEpil Vs ‘Me my Elos’ IPL Hair Removal

Compare Silk’n SensEpil To Me My Elos Hair Removal

Many people who search for a home hair removal system, and know they do not want a laser hair removal system, would at the end of their search be comparing these two at-home IPL systems: Silk’n SensEpil Vs Me my Elos by Syneron. In this review we will try and compare these two hair removal systems, to help people pick the best at-home IPL device for their needs.

The two systems are achieving hair removal and hair reduction with a similar technology of “Intense Pulsed Light“, more commonly called IPL. The IPL use light flashes with low energy to remove hair growth by heat. The optical-thermal hair reduction is caused when the light heats the melanin in the hair and causes it to warm up and pass the heat down to the root for complete elimination

We will review these two IPL systems comparing Silk’n SensEpil and Me my Elos by: Hair Removal Technology, At-Home Sessions, Price, Results, Add-Ons and Overall Conclusion.

Me my Elos Vs Silk'n SensEpil Hair Removal

Silk’n Vs Syneron History

The IPL technology was discovered in Israel and patented by Dr. Shimon Eckhouse who is the chairman of Syneron. Syneron is the world largest manufacturer for hair removal aesthetic clinics professional machines, with thousands of machines used for millions of treatments world wide. The Me my Elos is Syneron’s first at-home IPL device for hair removal.

Silk’n is also an Israeli based company Home Skinovations which began as soon as the IPL was discovered to manufacture home-based hair removal systems, which could be bought online and free women and men from visiting the hair removal clinics.

SensEpil Technology Compared To ‘Me’ Elos Technology

The two systems are using as mentioned a very similar technology for their hair removal results. They both use a variation of IPL for removing hair by turning light into heat.

The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) was patented by the founders of Syneron, Silk’n light is called HPL – Home Pulsed Light, which seems exactly the same thing but a legal way to bypass the patented IPL. The HPL is a quick flash of light, which heats the hair and also cause a small acoustic shiver to the hair, which intensifies the heating effect.

Me my Elos Vs Silk'n SensEpil Hair RemovalBoth systems use a fairly low energy light (compared to lasers) 5-7 Joules per square Centimeter. Home laser systems (like the TRIA) use up to 24 Joules per square Centimeter, and clinic professional systems use much higher energy levels (50-100 J/cm2.)

The Syneron system is using an advanced IPL+RF hair removal technology, combining two technologies into one system. This Me ELOS (Electro-Optical-Synergy) is using the light to pre-heat the hair and the RF (Radio-Frequency) to further heat it till destruction.

The main advantage is that RF is not light energy, it’s radio-waves and it does not effect the skin tissue only the pre-heated hair. So the ‘Me’ can use lower energy levels (more safe and less painful) to complete the hair destruction process. Because the light levels are less intense the ‘Me’ is safer for darker skin tones than other light based systems.

Hair Removal Sessions – Silk’n SensEpil Vs Me my Elos

Both Systems are used with direct electric power, so they can keep working as much as needed without any ‘low-battery’ or battery recharging breaks. The Silk’n SensEpil and the Me my Elos systems have a similar wide IPL window. They can both cover larger skin areas faster compared to Laser Systems (Tria or DM6000) which have a pin-point tip, which can take for ever to complete a treatment.

  • Silk’n SensEpil can cover a leg in 30 minutes.
  • Me my Elos can complete a leg in 10 minutes.
  • Tria Laser can take up to an hour or more to cover a leg.

Both systems have 5 level power scale to choose from. Low energy recommended for sensitive skin or facial skin, and higher levels for best results and effective hair reduction.

The Me my Elos has a clear advantage over the Silk’n SensEpil, because of the two attachments Me-Shaver  and Me-Epilator. These two attachments when connected to the Me system, free the user from any prior shaving. The pre-shaving is part of the IPL removal method, and with other systems (including Tria Laser) a person must shave the hair a day before the IPL treatment.

When using the Me with the Me-Shaver, no preparations are needed and the hair can be removed instantly, as the shaver shaves the skin and the Elos light + RF complete the process.

Facial Hair Removal – Silk’n SensEpil Vs Me Elos

Silk'n SensEpil Compared to Me my ElosRemoving hair from the face was always a problem when evaluating at-home hair removal systems. Non of the systems have any FDA approval for allowing officially hair removal from the face, because of risks to eye injuries.

But people do use the systems for facial hair removal. Both Silk’n and Syneron systems have solution for these needs. Silk’n SensEpil is allowing users unofficially to use the system “from the cheekbones downward”. The Me my Elos has launched a hair removal facial kit (in Israel & the UK) which includes a safety goggles and a white pencil to cover lips and pigmented spots.

Silk’n SensEpil Vs Me my Elos Cost

The Silk’n SensEpil cost is lower when it comes to the machine itself, it is sold online for $300 approx, while the Me my Elos is sold for $600. So Silk’n SensEpil may be seem cheaper than the Me my Elos. But the low cost is only part of the real cost for the hair removal system.

The IPL flash lamp has a limited amount of flashes, when the cartridge is empty a  new IPL cartridge lamp needs to be bought . The SensEpil disposable cartridge lamp is good for 750 flashes, which is not enough to complete a whole body repeated sessions, a new disposable lamp costs $45. The Me Elos comes with an IPL lamp with 120,000 flashes is enough to complete a full body session (a Me my Elos replacement cartridge lamp will cost $79).

The downside of the Me my Elos is that the attachments are not included, so if you want the no preparations treatment, you will need to buy the Me-Shaver or the Me-Epilator separately.
